Giving to Charity

Is giving to charity a waste of money or the responsibility of the wealthy?

How do you feel about charities?  Is giving to them important to Druids?  Below are some Druidic opinions.  If you would like to tell us what charity means to you as a Druid, please send your thoughts to the ethical debate coordinator.

Cathi Yarrow : I think giving to charity is a useful act, as long as it is combined with other action to change what we see as unjust in the world. If I give to a homeless charity, for example, it would be good for me to  also understand the causes of homelessness and perhaps also work to address those. If I give to an owl trust, then I could sit in prayer with the Owl, and seek to understand the reasons behind any threat to their survival. Otherwise charity-giving can just be treating the symptom, not the cause. And again - if we do it to make ourselves feel good, it's not worth half as much.
