Arth Frown - The Wood that Turns

Field Maple GobletSycamore BowlMy inspiration has always been a hard one to express, I’ve tried poetry and playing the guitar both I have found not enough of a outlet.

Two years ago I bought a small parcel of woodland in the heart of West Sussex. Since then I have been reading how bodgers and coppice workers have made a living from woodland crafts and how this has benefited the woodland. So I have bought a power lathe and have found wood to be the perfect outlet for my inspiration.

Elm Burr BowlAs I become more experienced with woodturning and drawing a little design on an old envelope sometimes the wood just wants to be what it wants to be! As I carved out the sycamore bowl with a shape in my mind something just takes over me and what I was left with was a bowl that our iron age or bronze age ancestors would of made out of clay.
