Big Garden Bird Watch
Join the RSPB for the Big Garden Birdwatch
The RSPB's Big Garden Birdwatch takes place on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 January, when people are encouraged to spend an hour spying on the birds in their garden and help make 2008 a record breaking event. Last year more than 400,000 people spent an hour counting the birds in their garden. People of all ages take part in Big Garden Birdwatch and it doesn't matter where you live or how big your garden is. Every piece of information noted down is useful for the RSPB and helps build a picture of which birds are doing well and which ones are not.
These records provide the RSPB with a vital snapshot of the UK's birds each winter. Over the years, RSPB scientists can record patterns in bird numbers and use this to help prioritise bird conservation work.
To take part, simply spend one hour over the weekend of 26/27 January, counting the birds in your garden and record the highest number of each bird species seen at any one time. For further information and online resources to help you with your birdwatch, visit the RSPB website www.rspb.org.uk/birdwatch where an online survey form will be available from the weekend of Big Garden Birdwatch until 18 February 2008. Alternatively, call the RSPB on 0870 600 7108 for a Big Garden Birdwatch form.
