The Sky

How often do we look up and fill our senses with the sky? The ever changing beauty that fills up to 70% of our vision. In this area are all things relating to the sky. Articles, ideas, and information. air travel, the ozone layer, city smog etc.

Air

by Josephine

You brought me life and,
you sustain me.
Without you I cannot live.

I breath you in,
Then I discard you,
Without a second thought.

You are clear,
And you are murky.
You are thick,
And you are thin.
You are still,
And you are moving.
You can shimmer,
But not shine.

You are neither dark,
Nor light.
You are invisible,
But I can feel you.
Sometimes a lot,
Often just a little.

You are unreliable,
But you are always there.

You are in the North.
You are in the South.
You are in the East.
And you are in the West.

You are all around me,
And you are within me.
You are a god.
You are Air.

Air

The air that we breathe, the breeze that brushes our skin – this has all been breathed, been felt before. We live in a bubble of atmoshopere on our planet, where the environment naturally recycles all that we need to survive, including air.

Think about it. The air that you breathe has been in the lungs of countless people, throughout the world. It is the breath of our ancestors, of every creature that walks, crawls or alights upon the earth. It is a beatiful reminder of the connectedness of everything in the web of existence. Our breath, our awen, our sacred inspiration, is something to be cherished, honoured.

Air connects us to the plant kingdom, as we are co-dependent on each other for survival. What we exhale, they inhale, and vice versa. This connection to the plant world as well as the animal world is crucial in understanding a part of deep Druidry – we are not separate, we are utterly entwined in each other’s lives. We cannot live apart.

Breathing in meditation is often used as a central focus. What I suggest is using it as an act of devotion, as a gateway to the inter-connectedness of all living things. You can use it to connect to your ancestors, imagining breathing in their breath. It connects you to animal and plant spirits. Feel it feeding you, nourishing you, a sacred inspiration and an honoured exhalation.

Stand in the force of the gale. Feel the cool night breeze on your skin. Feel the air settle on a hot, humid day upon your human frame. Notice the breath of a lover within your nemeton. Sit and breathe with a tree, the cat, a field of poppies. Feel the solar wind at dawn and dusk. Map the air currents in your area to attune yourself to the power and wonder that is air.

Like the ancestors, it is all around you, though you may not see it. Honour it with all that you are.
