Trees in School Planting Stories
This winter has seen several Druids getting their local schools involved with the Woodland Trust's ‘Tree For All' project (http://www.treeforall.org.uk/).
Here is the story of one of the recent planting days.
Louise : When I phoned my local school they hadn't heard of the Woodland Trust 'Tree for All' project. I explained about the free trees they could get for their school grounds, and when I told them I'd be happy to help them plant them they jumped at the chance to be involved!

When the teacher called me to say the trees had arrived I was a little nervous of going into school and meeting a bunch of children, but it was lovely. We talked about what they knew already about trees and I showed them the different types of trees in the school grounds and told them a little about them.
Then we carefully opened the package of trees the Woodland Trust had sent for us to plant. I showed them which little ‘whip' was which tree and we choose a place to plant them. I showed the children how to measure the spacing between them with their hands and soon everyone was happily digging holes and getting muddy. My visit to the school only lasted about an hour, but the memories of the fun and the comments the children made about how proud they are of the trees they've planted will be with me for much longer. For me this was a great bit of Awen in Action!
