What is the Trafalgar Initiative?
The Woodland Trust is working with the Society for Nautical Research to mark the bicentenary of the Battle of Trafalgar in 2005. Together with partners, the Woodland Trust is planting a new wood for each of the 27 ships of the line in the fleet (plus a wood for 6 of the support vessels) at the Battle of Trafalgar. Much of the Woodland Trust’s tree planting work in 2005 has been packaged into the Trafalgar Initiative. Planting events took place in the autumn and winter, with the aim to plant over 250,000 trees.
The Druid Network decided to support the Trafalgar Initiative through a focus of peace, and the healing power of regeneration: replenishing those woods that were cut to make battleships, we honour our ancestors. Planting trees now, we do so with the intention of creating, for our descendants, forests of peace.

The Druid Network’s financial contribution
Thanks to generous donations to our Tree Planting Fund, The Druid Network has contributed £600 towards Woodland Trust tree planting in the autumn of 2005, to new sites that are owned and managed by the Woodland Trust: those called Ajax (Durham), Orion (Hampshire), Polyphemus (Lancashire) and Victory (Kent).
