“I’m here because I know something. What it is I can’t
say, but it’s there like a splinter in my mind.”
- 'The Matrix'
That’s how I felt before I discovered Druidry. The first time I
visited the Druid Gorsedd I was totally blown away. I first discovered
Druidry last winter; I was told that the Anglesey Druidic Order was holding
a talk on the pagan origins of Christmas. Of course my ears pricked up
like a dogs when I heard about this. Little did I know I’d discover
a new spiritual path at the same time.
Druidry is like the other side of the coin from Wicca, they are like
“Sister religions”. I think that Druidry has integrated very
well into my spiritual path, it provides the extra 10% that Wicca can’t
provide for me (Ok, It’s probably more than 10%!) Some people say
that you can’t be both – you must be either Wiccan or Druid.
I say that’s a load of rubbish as they fit together so well. For
me, learning about Druidry has enlightened my view of Wicca/Witchcraft.
And they are not so different – the rituals are very similar –
in some respects anyway.
One of the things Druidry has done for me is enlightenment. I have more
wisdom than I did before I learned about the Druidic path. Not wisdom
of some special powers or some fancy thing like this, but wisdom of myself.
I am more spiritually aware. I am more aware of my immediate surroundings
and environment. And because of this I’d say I’m a practicing
Druid whenever I’m conscious. To coin an old Quaker phrase “Let
your lives speak” I’d say that since my Path started to include
Druidry, my life started speaking a little louder.
Druidry as a religion encourages you to look into your own soul (At least
it does in my rather limited experience) and for me just starting to look
in, instead of out has been very beneficial to me.
Druidry has fitted in with me so well I think because of my rural upbringing.
And Anglesey was the Druidic stronghold before the Romans turned up, so
it’s very much a Welsh path. When I’m “Working”
the most effective gods/goddesses are the welsh ones. I think that I have
a very strong affinity for Druidry in part because of where I was born,
in part because it’s “just the way I am”.To coin another
line from 'The Matrix';
“You will come to realise, just as I did; there is a difference
between knowing the path and walking the path”.
I wish you all the blessings as you start walking!
