Delaware Gap

Autumn in the Delaware Gap, Pennsylvania

The Northeastern Woodlands region of America includes the states of New York and Pennsylvania. It is a land of ancient mountains and broad river valleys, long stretches of sandy beaches, marshes and coastal wetlands, and great cities. The Native American tradition is rich, varied, and venerable, and is best known, perhaps, in the heritage of the Iroquois Confederacy (the Seneca, Cayuga, Oneida, Onandaga, and Mohawk nations) and the Lenni Lanape. The Appalachian Mountains in the interior are among the oldest on Earth. The great coastal estuaries connect the region to the world. Rich in wild game, plagued by industrial pollution, it is one of the most complicated of ecosystems. Druids in the Northeastern Woodlands live with ancestors and gods of place and tradition that rival the Celtic roots of Druidry.
