US South Central Woodlands
Welcome to the Southcentral Woodlands Region's page. The region includes Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Spanning from the edge of the Appalachian Mountains in the Northeastern corner of the district to the gulf coast and bayous of of Mississippi and Louisiana in the Southwest, our region is diverse in its landscape, plant life, and people. The region includes medium sized cities, the largest of which are Memphis and Nashville (the 19th and 25th largest cities in the US, but both having populations less than 700,000) to very small towns and rural communities. The area was originally the home of the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, and a dozen other Native American Indian tribes. That, along with the early immigration of the Scottish, Irish, and French, coupled with the import of slaves from Africa and the Caribbean has created a unique blending of folk and magical traditions unique to this area. The almost paradox to this, is the fact that this region is also know as the "buckle" of the bible belt of the United States.
I am Ieuan, the Southcentral Woodlands Region Members Coordinator. If you are in the region and want to learn about The Druid Network, or if you have a resource or event in the area you would like to share with the rest of the region, or if you just want to say "Hi", please contact me by clicking here.
