Fearn is a tree steeped in folklore, based upon its strength and resilience. When I sit with this tree, it guides me to journey down into the eath, to consider foundations, inspiring me to explore deep emotions, the old roots of nourishment and support, that teach us of patience, duty and care. Alder loves to live close to water, being frequently found on the banks of rivers and streams. Alder is a relatively hard wood and would have been an excellent material for making shields and other items.
I struggled with Alder for a very long time, seeking to build relationship yet unable to find a definitive understanding of the energy of this tree. Today Alder offers me a sense of protection and well-being when communication is based on honour and honesty. It suffers fools badly and seems to sense our intentions clearly. So it is that when I have doubts it can be a hard taskmaster, forcing me to find clarity and a clear path forward. (CC)
