Ngetal

Common Reed

Green Common ReedsReed as Ally

Ngetal is often debated, but if the Ogham is to be valuable to us, it is sound to choose from the various options those with whom we have most potent relationships, and it is the common reed that I am closer to.

This is one of the plants that was critically useful to our ancestors, as thatching, flooring, basketry, quills and paper, arrow shafts and more. In the breeze the stories of the ancestors whisper through the reed beds, and though they move gently in the wind, each reed is straight, tall and sure, rising up from the still dark waters, great roots stable in the wet earth. Ngetal holds stories, contains, preserves, protects, inspiring us ever to listen to the ancestors. (ERO)
