Quert
Apple as Ally
Quert is often considered by the wild crab apple and the domesticated apple. If we think of the ogham as both it can broaden our associations, for it magnifies the quality of apple. The crab apple naturally grows solitarily, with not another of her species for acres around; so does she teach us that we walk our own path, and the deeper our journeys the more we are alone. She is the tree of illusions, of trickery and temptation. She reminds us that we craft our own lives, of joy or sorrow. She helps us to find laughter and cunning, but also to see through them to the thorny sour wildness of nature. (ERO)

Oghams of Mac ind Oic: force of the man
While there are now hundreds of different varieties of Apple, the original form in the British Isles was the wild Crab Apple. With its thorny branches and abundance of small sour fruit, the Crab Apple teaches us that we should be true to ourselves, walking our own paths in honour and acceptance. Yet it is also a tree of generosity and of love, giving freely of itself when needed, sharing when needed, and so can teach us of unconditional love, of healing, of personal growth and of regeneration.
