Review
The tale of a Suffolk drinking place, the One Bull, from the end of the Roman
occupation till 1980. Similar to “I am England”
in its conception, but instead of the focus being on the landscape, the focus
is on how the inn evolves and changes with each succession of inhabitants
and the stories of generations of the inn owners. There are some touching
romances, monks, a martyred Anglo Saxon king, Danes, the plague of 1348, the
coming of the Reformation and so on.
