Enya
Enya is part of the Brennan family who form Clannad. She left the band to
make her own unique music. Her music is similar to Clannad’s- it has
a Celtic feel, but a bit more mystical. I find her music the perfect way to
relax to at the end of the day. It is also perfect to have in the background
for ritual or inner grove work, as it sounds Otherworldly. Like Clannad some
of her songs are sung in Irish Gaelic (and some sound like Latin). This album,
is perhaps the most beautiful one I have ever heard. Enya’s voice is
angelic. My favourites from this album are as follows-
Shepherd Moons, the opening track, is a beautiful piano melody with Enya’s
magical vocalisations. It evokes the beauty of the night sky to me. There
are no words, so it is ideal to use as a background to meditation.
The second track, Caribbean Blue, has a joyous lilting melody. It is sung
in English.
The most haunting, beautiful track on this album is Angeles, track 5. It
is difficult not to believe you are not hearing angels singing when you hear
this!
Track 7, The Book of Days is sublime- haunting tune, but uplifting. It is
sung in English.
Lothlorien, track 9, is an instrumental piano song, pure and beautiful.
It evokes the magical elven city of Lothlorien perfectly. I think this would
have been a great addition to the music Lords of The Rings films (she wrote
the title track to the first film).
Afer Ventus, track 10, is another track that to me, invoke the magic of
the Otherworld. It really does sound like it comes from Tolkein’s world.
It isn’t sung in English- it sounds like Latin to me.
The last track, Smaointe, sung in Irish Gaelic, is slow and atmospheric.
It is very difficult to describe the magical sound of Enya- I haven’t
done this album justice. I cannot recommend it enough. It is an ideal album
for a Druid to own.
