Cathi Yarrow : Yes, I'm happy to say, all of my accounts are with "ethical" banks, as is the bank account for my company. It's a relatively simple step to take, to withdraw from the exploitative and unethical high street banks. Although recently I've had to open a high-street bank account for a joint account with my partner and I appreciated the sense of community resulting from living in a small place where the bank staff know me! Sometimes telephone/internet banking is too anonymous - but a small price to pay considering the benefits of ethical banking!
Louise Sutherland : It's vital to remember that even when your aren't spending your money, someone else is. Your bank will be lending your hard earned cash to a wide range of companies engaged in different businesses around the globe. If you want your bank to match your ethical concerns and not use your money to support industries such as arms, dangerous chemicals, the tobacco industry or factory farming, you need to choose an ethical bank.
