Junk Mail

The Mail Preference Service 'supports your right to choose the mail you want.'

http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/mpsr/

With UK consumers generating over £25 billion worth of postal sales per year, it's fair to say the majority welcome the information and special offers they receive by post. However, it's also understandable why some people might take a different view. The MPS is here to make your choice known - so you get the mail you want and need. Unwanted, unread Direct Mail has no place in anyone's home. And if you're not interested in receiving it, we will update our records for Direct Mail companies to see and adjust their lists as you request.

A great environmental action.
There are also options for Fax and Telephone sales.

It doesn't cover anything addressed to The Occupier with the address, but cuts the leaflets and marketing.

Another policy to reduce junk mail is to write on it : 'Not at this address - please return to sender'. Then, just pop it back in the post box. Results are noticeable after the first 6 months or so. I have also found it effective to 'Return to Sender' the hand delivered post by Royal mail, addressed to The Occupier; if the majority of the public did this, Royal Mail would eventually get the message that the public don't want it, reducing the paper waste. I now have virtually no junk mail.

If you do get leaflets, free papers and junk mail, and have an open fire, why not turn them into logs. See the page on Fuel for Fires.
