Putting People Before Patents

India produces affordable medicines that are vital for many people living in developing countries. Over half the HIV medicines currently used to treat AIDS in developing countries comes from India. These affordable medicines are also used to treat 80% of the 80,000 AIDS patients in Medicine Sans Frontieres (MSF) projects.

But Novartis – a multinational drug company – is taking the Indian government to court, claiming its patent law is unfair. If Novartis wins, more medicines will be patented, making it impossible for generic producers to make affordable versions of them.

If you think Novartis is behaving completely unethically in order to maintain its multibillion dollar profits, go to the Medicine Sans Frontieres website and sign the petition asking for Novartis to drop the case. http://www.msf.org
