The Albion Conclave correspondence course was originally
created out of the desire to build a bridge linking modern druidry back to
its ancient ancestry. The course contents work with many themes that appear
to have been largely ignored by the modern tradition. Ten years ago a great
deal of the information we were attempting to convey remained marginalized,
out on the fringe of where druidic practice was heading at the time. It still
amazes me to acknowledge the fact that modern druidry has spun in a direction
which has evolved in empathy with the Conclave and now accepts many of the
concepts that seemed so radical back then, but still remain instrumental building
blocks of the correspondence course today. Indeed the original substance of
the course continues to remain at the cutting edge of the tradition, just
as it did over a decade ago. Even Ronald Huttons marvellous ability to de-bunk
many New Age assumptions concurs with our own discoveries and observations.

For me one of the most satisfying endorsements of the course
remarked upon by students is the shear volume of information contained within
the course material. The course itself has been painstakingly researched and
where we find concepts such as the Awen for example, which is defiantly a
modern creation, we have always attempted to make this very clear to the students,
whilst still appreciating its sacred value. We feel that it is inappropriate
to misguide people into assuming they are following an authentic unbroken
tradition when they are not. We try to support our opinions wherever possible
with evidence and also provide evidence to support areas where creative imagination
has been used to fill in the gaps. However, if the benchmark is to be honesty,
then the Conclave itself must also concede that it is just one expression
of druidic philosophy. Like the druid oak of knowledge, we enjoy the diversity
of many intricate and interlacing branches honouring the tradition. A case
quite literally of horses for courses, I believe.
For Druids who are unfamiliar with the Albion Conclave and
would wish to know more, we strongly suggest that you explore the works of
Ann Ross, see (The Pagan Celts, The Life and Death of a Druid Prince and her
most concise work to date, Druids). Her groundbreaking, highly respected research/fieldwork
has been a tower of inspiration within the Conclaves teachings, especially
relating to the sacred head and its prime function expressing the very spiritual
essence of ancient pagan druidry.
In summary, the Albion Conclave is not a Druid Order, we
wish to adapt and change as new and exciting information is rediscovered and
within the constraints of an Order that could at times prove a difficult objective
to accomplish. As the meaning of that incredibly powerful word ‘Druid’
shape-shifts its way through the ages, the Albion Conclave in turn embraces
this many facetted diamond of Truth. There is still time yet to prove the
scholar Stuart Piggott wrong, that we are coming of age, no longer the ‘Fag
End of the Myth!’
Should you wish to subscribe, the course is run by conventional
post. Introduction details including lesson 1 are free of charge.
