This latest album by Nick Wood, editor of the shamanic magazine Sacred
Hoop, is a delight. SHINE to me is a wonderful raw mixture of Bob Dylan,
Eric Clapton and David Byrne. It has beautifully rich sentiments, a lilting
rhythm and a skilled simplicity that retains space within the full sound
of the music. Nick's voice is more powerful in terms of meaning than tunefulness,
like Dylan, and the lyrics are often deeply poignant: I found myself often
stopping to listen more clearly, to allow the images and emotions to touch
me, and
at the same time feeling the music move around me, like the spirit of
the wind on a hillside. Better than his last, CROWS AND ANGELS, check
out his website and pick up a copy of SHINE; if you like any or all of
those three artists above, especially with a heavy Pagan influence added,
this is well worthwhile.
