This is a really lovely film, beautifully shot, exploring some of the work of the environmental artist, Andy Goldsworthy, as he carries out his work in different parts of the world, particularly Canada and the area around his home in Scotland. We see him painstakingly create works in ice, with leaves, with stone, mostly next to or in rivers or the sea. Some collapse over and over before they are completed. We see many of the works as they are changed by the currents or the sun.

Any Goldsworthy talks unpretentiously and simply about his work, about the importance to him of connection with land, of staying in one place over many years to really understand it, and of working with the river as a way of trying to understand time. In one section, he talks of his works as being a gift to the sea, and adds that what he gets in return is so much more.

As someone with a strong connection to my local river, I found his respectful attitude very moving and druidic. I recommend this film, especially if you already know and like his work.
