Gorsedd of Bards of Cor Gawr - Gorsedd Beirdd Côr y Cewri

The rites at Stonehenge for the Gorsedd of Cor Gawr are led by Christine Cleere (Vixx), together with a small group of supporting priests. For any information on the Gorsedd, or contributions for the Cor Gawr pages, please visit the Gorsedd web page or subscribe to our Facebook Group. You can contact Christine here.

Midsummer Gorsedd 2012

Join us at dawn on Sunday the 24th June 2012 to celebrate and honour the sunrise on traditional Midsummer's Day in the magical and sacred setting of Stonehenge. The event is open to all, though is restricted to a maximum of 100 people by English Heritage, and therefore entry is by ticket only. For the first time, and as a trial, the Gorsedd is making tickets available free of charge. Ticketing arrangements

Those wishing to attend are therefore advised to order tickets as early as possible, as demand is always higher than the availability of tickets, resulting in disappointment for some. Applications are restricted to a maximum of four per person; please include the names of everyone you have booked tickets for in your request.

Please only order the number you really need, and if you are commited to attending. Each year a few folk fail to arrive, and that means others who wanted tickets but were unsuccessful have been prevented from attending. A 'waiting list' is always maintained, and where we are informed of ticket holders being unable to attend due to unforeseen circumstances these can be re-allocated given sufficient notice.

Applying for tickets

Requests for tickets should be made using only the Midsummer Gorsedd 2012 ticket application form. Other methods of application may result in delays and/or failure to secure your ticket. Please ensure you indicate how many tickets you require, the names of all those attending, and your home address. By applying for tickets you will become an Associate Member of Cor Gawr, and are agreeing to the terms and conditions of access required by English Heritage.

Please note that tickets must be booked in advance, and cannot under any circumstances be picked up at the site. They must be brought with you to the Gorsedd as they contain a pass for the car park without which you will not be admitted. Tickets will be sent to succesful applicants by email only approximately the last week of May/the first week of June, which you must print and bring with you. Tickets must be brought with you to the Gorsedd as they contain a pass for the car park without which you will not be admitted. No postal applications will be accepted, and no pre-printed tickets will be issued.

Arrangements

We will gather at the Stonehenge car park at 4:00am, with access into the stones from 4:30am-6:30am. The car park must be cleared by 7:00am. Exact parking arrangements are subject to change as the site may be undergoing changes for the new visitors centre at this time.

Everyone is asked to bring offerings to the spirits of place, bread and mead for the shared feasting (mead must be in plastic bottles as glass ones will not be permitted within the Stones), and contributions to the eisteddfod - song, music, dance, poetry - should they wish. Please dress more warmly! than you would expect!

Please remember that events organized for Stonehenge are always at risk of last minute cancellation by English Heritage (owing to any recent damage or risk of disturbance). If you are in any doubt asto whether the event is still happening, get in touch with Christine Cleere, Cor Gawr Lead Priest and Organiser via our contact form.

Lastly

As we have exclusive access to the stones outside of normal opening hours we do make a contribution to English Heritage in recognition of the costs they incur to allow us entry at these times; we also have administration costs to cover as well. Donations are always welcome to help us cover the cost of these expenses, while any excess is donated to The Druid Network Tree Planting Fund, and other charities.
