Australian Bushfires

Submitted by Cloudberry on Mon, 23/02/2009 - 20:20.
Project Area:

As someone who used to live in Australia when I was younger (and who still has family and friends living there now) and because of my connection through being the Affiliated Groups and Groves Co-ordinator, I would just like to express my concern and heartfelt sympathy to everyone in Australia, especially those coping with floods or devastated by the horrific bushfires. During recent events those affected have never been far from my thoughts and I'm sure many more of TDN members feel the same way. Despite the recent lack of coverage by the British media, fires in Victoria are still burning. They are threatening not only people's homes and livelihood, but also their safety and that of the animals and vegetation they share the land with. Whilst Australia has always been a country accustomed to bushfires, the fires Victoria have been experiencing since earlier this month have been the worst for many decades.

The following link was sent to us by a friend in Australia, please spare a few minutes and go and have a look: http://vimeo.com/3151052

Earth Hour - 8:30pm, Saturday, 28th March

Submitted by Cloudberry on Fri, 20/02/2009 - 21:58.
Project Area:

Greetings!

Anybody out there heard about WWF’s “Earth Hour”? It started in Sydney, Australia, back in 2007 with 2.2 million homes and businesses turning their lights off for one hour to highlight the need for action on global warming and the seriousness of climate change. Following media coverage the simple event in Sydney in 2007 became a global affair in 2008 when over 370 cities and towns, including many famous landmarks across the world, joined in for an hours blackout. This year WWF wants the event to become even bigger and really bring home to governments in every country that dangerous climate change won’t just go away and something needs to be done now and not when it is too late.

8:30pm, Saturday, 28th March is the time and date for this years “Earth Hour”. Sit on your own in candlelight or get together with friends and have a candlelit dinner party or maybe a storytelling session around the fire. There are various ideas for what to do (and how to raise money for WWF whilst doing it) on the WWF website where you can also register: www.wwf.org.uk/earthhour for the UK and http://www.earthhour.org/ for international.

A Druid at Colchester?

Submitted by Oaklore on Wed, 19/11/2008 - 10:25.
Project Area:

Honouring the Ancient Dead (HAD) is working with Colchester & Ipswich Museum Service to rework their Iron Age displays. One of these is based around human remains and artefacts found at Stanway, near Colchester in Essex, which some have interpreted as possibly those of a Roman-era druid.

For more information, see www.honour.org.uk/node/247.

HAD and local Pagans are in discussion with Colchester & Ipswich Museum Service about how best to move forward with their plans to mount a special display in 2009.

HAD would very much like to hear from you if you have an interest in this case. Send your comments, thoughts and observations to Mike Fletcher at and he will pass them on. It might be possible to include some of these ideas within the consultation group.
