Making a Bequest

On occasion, Members and non-Members alike ask about leaving items and monies to The Druid Network, and this has become more frequent since the registration of TDN as a charitable organisation in England and Wales.

This matter was raised again in summer 2011 when an article was commissioned by Pagan Dawn on the subject of dying, and the preparations one might make beforehand. In responding to the call for comments by the articles author, the trustees decided to clarify the Network’s position as follows:

Up until then TDN had not seriously considered being left assets from the Wills of pagans and Druids. However, a couple of people have asked how they might do so and therefore the Pagan Dawn request for comment was both timely and pertinent.

The Druid Network is primarily an online infrastructure – its real physical assets are its Membership! As such we cannot easily consider donations of tools, books or similar items.

Financial donations are obviously different. We currently hold more money than we are spending, so in one way we don’t need any more. However, if a significant sum were to be left to The Druid Network it may facilitate a particular project – perhaps the purchase of woodland for the establishment of a permanent ritual space (donations of land would be similarly considered).

TDN would be happy therefore to receive open-ended cash donations, and any such donations would be separately documented in our accounts. However we stipulate that we could not accept donations with covenants or restrictions on how the money was to be spent.

Anyone considering such bequests should get in touch with the trustees.
