At this time

The trustees of The Druid Network extend their thanks to Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, as she makes her transition into mystery. Many people will recognise that the Princess Elizabeth was inaugurated into the Druid traditions through the Welsh Eistedfodd, but of course that was a matter of cultural respect rather than religion, and she became the head of both the state and the Church of England.

Nevertheless her reign covered perhaps the best of times, as Britain recovered from a terrible World War and grew through the technological era. The challenges now faced by King Charles III are tough, as we enter the era of resource depletion and climate chaos. King Charles has previously shown himself, even from a place of privilege, to be open to embracing the interconnectedness of life, and we trust he will bring his own character and insight to the position he now holds.

Many hold that the monarch and the land are inextricably entwined, in a way that includes the non-rational. We greet our new King, Charles the Third. May our new King rule over a land that is welcoming to all, that recognises we have but one planet on which to build a future, and provides a safe space for all life to thrive. Long life to the King. May the gods that be, agree.

  1. All good save for one thing: Climate change has been going on since the Earth was formed and is certainly not anthropogenic. 🤗

    1. Thanks for visiting and commenting. Any sentence containing “certainly…” suggests either evidence or ideology, and calls for some clarification as to which it may be. It is said that the ancient Druids were the scientists of their day, and indeed many of our members carry this into modern life; being themselves scientists, healers and philosophers.

The current balance of scientific opinion is that the global climate is being pushed towards warming and semi-chaotic weather events through the addition of human-engineered fossil fuel gas products into the atmosphere. Our living planet (certainly) changes over time through natural cycles, as does any living entity, but those changes can be and are being influenced.
