Australian Bushfires

The catastrophic bushfires of 2019 into 2020 have wrought massive destruction upon parts of Australia, affecting almost 50 Million acres of land. Bushfires are a regular event in Australia, and the landscape is familiar with the effects of fire; destroying, renewing, cleansing.

This season though has been dreadful; significantly worse than in living memory, impacting not only the human world but devastating the incredible biodiversity of the continent. The losses have been huge, and The Druid Network mourns for the loss of the living landscape, as well as the tragic human loss.

There is little to be done that isn’t being done. The weather systems themselves are in the grip of the flames, and while we may all send our Will to initiate calming rain (without wishing for uncontrollable floods on the ash-strewn land) we wish to add to the tangible solutions too.

The Druid Network has donated funds to the Koala Hospital in New South Wales, which will be used to plant new trees. The non-human life of Australia relies heavily on local forests for food and shelter, and the iconic Koala feeds on a variety of eucalypts, the more common being Tallowood, Swamp Mahogany and Forest Red Gum.

We have donated AU$180, sufficient to plant a dozen food trees, which will in turn nurture the local wildlife and go a little way to helping restore this shocked and reeling landscape. A small but heartfelt blessing from our Membership; we dream a renewed land, where all the life of Australia finds its home.
