On 1st June 2018, The Druid Network issued a press release celebrating the fact that all seven of the TDN trustees were signatories to the Mission Lifeforce declaration. Each one is listed on the trustee documents of Mission Lifeforce as an Earth Protector. Many TDN Members have joined them there.
Mission Lifeforce was established by an English barrister, Polly Higgins, with the aim to make a law of ecocide through an amendment to the Rome Statute. This would create an environment where the destruction of an ecosystem might be illegal and an international crime against the planet.
Polly sadly died in April 2019 after a very short and intense illness. Her work is carried on by her friends and coworkers at https://www.stopecocide.earth/
The idea behind StopEcocide is simple and clear. Through direct assistance and funding where needful, those states most vulnerable to increasing sea levels and other matters of ecocide are helped to support a motion at the International Criminal Court. Every state has an equal say, and when two thirds of states support a motion it is carried through.
If an action was found to be illegal through causing ecocide, it would stop. Not simply because it was illegal but because, being illegal, it could not be underwritten, could not be insured, could not get government funding or support. That’s the simplicity of this initiative.
As was stated at the top, all the trustees of TDN have supported this work. TDN supports it. It is an important part of a wakeful earth-connected Druidry. There is a small cost, but it seeks to minimise a much larger one.
