TDN to be represented in the Conference Interfaith Call for Ecocide Law

TDN trustee and IFN representative Neil Pitchford will be attending the inaugural Conference Interfaith Call for Ecocide Law by Faith for Ecocide Law, a multinational interfaith initiative calling for the crime of ecocide to be placed on the Rome Statute so as to give legal protection to our planet, the environment and all life on Earth. Ecocide law will allow various prosecutions to be lodged so as to hold environmentally destructive practices, companies and even individuals accountable for environmental destruction with Faith for Ecocide Law also calling for a “crimes against peace” option.

Organisationally, TDN has been supportive for many years with the End Ecocide campaign started by the late Polly Higgins and all the current trustees have signed up as conscientous objectors. Now that an agreed definition of ecocide has been created, many faiths and religions across the world have started to join the wider ecocide law campaign. Concerns that the rights of the environment need to be protected to allow all life on Earth to flourish, not only from a scientific basis, but also from a religious perspective are progressively getting front and centre attention from an ever increasing variety of religious practices.

TDN is very happy to get involved with this initiative and looks forward to seeing how this campaign progresses.
