A Rite of Completion

I recently worked with someone whose marriage had ended but which was not ‘complete’.

Working with both partners we devised a ritual that allowed each partner to complete the marriage so that they could move out from the relationship having acknowledged its gifts and lessons.

In the rite there were 3 spaces …

– the man’s space
– the lady’s space
– the marriage space

The rite began in the marriage space and each moved out from the marriage into their ‘own’ space and, from there, out into the world.

The rite included :

– thanks and acknowledgements for what had happened
– an acknowledgement of upsets and disappointments from their time together
– a celebration of the time together and the gifts given and received
– a ‘freeing’ and a ‘blessing’ from one to the other
– a severance

The rite was simple, short and deep.
Please feel free to ask me more about it if it would be useful
