The following was sent in by Ian Buxton on the birth of his son. It is a beautiful example of a pledge made by a parent to a child at a Naming Rite or Rite of Welcoming, and I hope it inspires others seeking words for their own ceremonies.
I pledge myself to protect you
From the dangers in life that you may not see
I pledge myself to help you
To bring you all that you may need
I pledge my love to you
A love that remains regardless of whatever you may do
I pledge myself to listen to you
So that you can pursue your potential, not the dreams I may have for you
I pledge myself to teach you
So that you can live a successful life that continues even when I am gone
I pledge my time to you
To protect you, help you, love you, listen to you and teach you.
