Covid 19 statement from TDN.
The Druid Network, is an active member within The Interfaith Network UK.
TDN trustee and IFN statement making moderator Neil Pitchford, is a co-signatory to the following statement that was published at the end of March 2020.. https://www.interfaith.org.uk/news/faith-communities-and-coronavirus-a-statement
The nationwide lockdown has resulted in matters of concern being raised by various faith groups, especially faiths whose practices are usually held within specific nominated places of worship and whose remit also involves the funeral practises of their specific faith. The necessities of the current Covid 19 actions mean that these places are no longer available for their intended purpose.
Faith groups have adapted their practices to best deal with the current situation, lots of them using internet based communication to strengthen ties and create contact points for the wider community to engage with.
Due to the stringent requirements regarding the disposal of bodies, especially if that person died through Covid 19, the usual means of funerary rights are now, at best, challenging. It was felt that a statement was needed to clarify IFN position and to demonstrate support and possible guidance for faith communities at this time.
As Druids, our “places of Worship” are usually to be found out in the wider environment, but the current travel restrictions, logically, mean that a lot of us can’t access them at this time. So the principles raised within this IFN statement are relevant to Druidry as well as other specific faith groups.
